for like a year(s) at a time? lol. seriously in most pictures from these years you see him wearing the same thing

71- denim up and down (canadian tuxedo)
85- red tee
87 - flanel over black tee
91 - see the blue tee a lot
94-95 - purple tee

black tee shirt was definitely the most common you see him wear that throughout the 70s and 80s

not that I really give a shit about Jerry's sense of fashion, its just a funny observation

There was a '78 interview with Bob Weir where he was asked how many black t-shirts Jerry owned. "Not enough" was the reply, implying that he didn't change his shirt often.

Based on that article that was referenced awhile ago here (http://members.tripod.com/malfalfa1/garciainterview.htm)where the author about 3/4's of the way down says "This interview with Jerry Garcia's love for acoustic guitars was conducted during the spring of 1985. From the moment he walked into his living room, it was apparent that Garcia was in physically bad shape. His prodigious body odor preceded him by the room’s length", perhaps these were the ONLY shirts of these colors he wore, changing them only when they disintegrated.

I liked the story that Phil related in his book about Jerry and his trademark t-shirts. Some time near the end, Phil and his wife went to visit Jerry in his new house. While taking a tour of the house, they saw into the huge walk-in closet that Jerry had and the only thing in there were a handful of Jerry's black t-shirts.
I found this to be kind of a humorous story!!!

he wore all kinds of cool shit in the 60's. paisleys, tye dyes, rainbow pants(see europe 72 liner notes) leather jackets, etc. with heroin, you kinda stop caring about bathing and your wardrobe.
